What they share
Their customers are other protocols, not end users. Demand for them follows the activity of the ecosystem they serve, and their token typically pays for the service or is staked to guarantee it.
What separates them
- What they provide. Oracles that deliver prices and data to smart contracts (Chainlink, Pyth); connectors between blockchains and existing financial systems (Quant); decentralized storage (Filecoin) and compute (Internet Computer); restaking, which lets one stake secure several services at once (EigenCloud, formerly EigenLayer); and a Bitcoin layer for smart contracts (Stacks).
- Whether the token is needed. On some, using the service requires the token; on others customers pay in other currencies and the token secures or governs the network.
